PRESIDENT
BUDDY BUNCH, R.Ph., was appointed as the community pharmacy representative by Governor Robert Bentley for a 5 year term beginning January 2013. Buddy is a 1979 graduate of Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy. Before opening Bunch Pharmacy in Guntersville in 1997, he was a manager for Harco Drug for 18 years. Buddy has served on numerous committees with the Alabama Pharmacy Association, including District Trustee, Vice President, and President. He has served as Chairman of the Board for the Guntersville Housing Authority for several years. He is a former President of the Apple Foundation for the Guntersville School System. |
VICE PRESIDENT
DAVID DARBY, R.Ph., was elected by Alabama pharmacists for a 5 year term beginning January 2014. David is a 1982 graduate of Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy (AUHSOP). He owns Darby’s Village Pharmacy and Darby’s Medical Center Pharmacy in Andalusia. Prior to opening his first store in 1997, he worked with Harco Drug as a pharmacist, store manager and district manager for 14 years. He has served as President of the Alabama Pharmacy Association and currently serves as a District Trustee. He is also on the Dean’s Advisory Council at AUHSOP as well as the Blue Cross Pharmacy Advisory Committee. He has received the Bowl of Hygeia, the AUHSOP Distinguished Service Award, the Lester White Good Government Award, and the NCPA Leadership Award. Darby’s Village Pharmacy was named Small Business of the Year by the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce in 2012 and Retailer of the Year by the Alabama Retail Association in 2014. |
TREASURER
DONNA C. YEATMAN, R.Ph. was appointed by Governor Robert Bentley as the chain pharmacist representative for a five year term beginning January 1, 2015. She is a 1994 Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy graduate. She is a third generation pharmacist and grew up learning the rewards of practicing pharmacy in an independent pharmacy owned by her grandfather and father. She began her pharmacy practice at Children’s Hospital before returning to retail community pharmacy with Big B Drugs. She is currently a District Manager with CVS Pharmacy. Donna is an Affiliate Clinical Instructor of Pharmacy Practice for Samford University, served on Samford University’s Leadership Council, and provides federal and state law reviews for CVS Pharmacy. She is also on the Board of Directors for United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham and volunteers with VSA Arts of Alabama. She coaches Our Lady of the Valley Middle School girls’ basketball team and is a member of the OLV Basketball Board of Directors. |
RALPH SORRELL, R.Ph., was elected by Alabama pharmacists for a 5 year term beginning January 2016.
A 1980 graduate of Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy, Ralph is co-owner of Ritch’s Pharmacy in Mountain Brook where he has practiced community pharmacy and served as a pharmacy preceptor since 1986. From 1980 to 1986, Ralph was a senior staff pharmacist at Mobile Infirmary. Professional activities include serving as President of the Alabama Pharmacy Association and President of the Jefferson County Pharmacy Association. He has been recognized with awards including Distinguished Young Pharmacist, McKesson Leadership Award and NARD Leadership Award. Ralph brings to the Board of Pharmacy experience in parenteral home therapy and compounding. |
BRENDA REED DENSON, Pharm.D., was appointed by Governor Robert Bentley for a five year term beginning January 1, 2017. She succeeds Dr. Tim Martin as the Board member representing institutional pharmacy practice.
Brenda Reed Denson is originally from Hackleburg, Alabama. She received her B.S. in Chemistry from Livingston University in 1994 and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy in Birmingham, Alabama in 1998. She completed her ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency at Children’s Health System in 1999. Dr. Denson became lead pharmacist of the stem cell transplant pharmacy at Children’s Hospital in 2000 and then became the Clinical Coordinator of Pharmacy at Children’s Hospital in 2001. Later, Dr. Denson served as the Investigational Pharmacist at Children’s of Alabama and now serves as the Pharmacy Educator for Children’s of Alabama where she serves on various multidisciplinary committees. Additionally, Dr. Denson has practiced in an LTAC setting at Select Medical in Birmingham, long term care at Unicare, and in various independent and retail pharmacy settings. Dr. Denson has served on the Alabama Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ALSHP) as Organizational Affairs Council Director, Vice Chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee, Treasurer, and President. She currently serves ALSHP as one of the delegates to the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists and has served on Public Policy Council with the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists. Dr. Denson currently serves her alma mater on the McWhorter School of Pharmacy Dean’s Advisory Council. |
ADMINISTRATION
SUSAN ALVERSON, R.Ph, MHP, DPA became Executive Secretary March 19, 2014. She is also in charge of all USP <797> compliance of sterile compounding.
Susan earned her Doctorate of Public Administration and Master of Science in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy from Virginia Commonwealth University, and her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin. Prior to joining the staff of the Board, Susan was the Associate Dean of Student/Alumni Affairs and Director of Continuing Education at Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy in Birmingham from January 2, 1993 – July 31, 2012. |
CRISTAL ANDERSON, Pharm.D. began her role as the Director of Compliance in October 2014. She completed undergraduate studies at the University of North Alabama and earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy in 2002. Cristal has since practiced in both institutional and community pharmacy settings. Her primary scope of practice includes USP 795/797 specialty inspections, coordination of cases for committee review, case closure and documentation, and research/response to pharmacy law or compounding inquiries.

VANCE L. ALEXANDER, RPh, JD, has served as administrative hearing officer for the Board of Pharmacy since 1997. As administrative hearing officer, he presides over disciplinary hearings including ruling on pre- and post-hearing motions, evidentiary matters, and drafts Final Orders for the review of the Board. Prior to serving as administrative hearing officer, he served a five-year term on the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy in 1992. He retired from the University of Alabama Hospitals in 1997 and practiced in corporate law until 2003. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and Master of Science degrees from the University of Houston. He received a Juris Doctor degree in 1982 from the Birmingham School of Law. Mr. Alexander has served in local, state and national pharmacy and law organizations.

JAMES S. WARD, Esq. has served as the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy attorney for over 20 years. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, B.A. in 1971 and went on to receive his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Alabama in 1974. From 1974 through 1978, he served as the Assistant United States District Attorney and assistant Attorney General for Alabama before he moved to private practice in Birmingham in 1978. He also serves as the attorney for the Alabama State Board of Chiropractors.

INVESTIGATORS
EDDIE BRADEN, Chief Investigator, has been employed by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy since April 21, 2003. He retired from the Hoover Police Department after 20 years of service. He holds a BS in Criminal Justice and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. His responsibilities include supervising and coordinating case activities for inspectors, investigating complaints and violations of the Practice of Pharmacy Act 205, Title 34, and the Alabama Uniform Controlled Substances Act 1407, Title 20.

HENRY A. BURKS, Inspector, has been employed by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy since July 7, 1997. He retired from the Montgomery Police Department after 20 years of service. He holds a BS and Masters in Justice and Public Safety from Auburn University. His territory includes Marion, Winston, Lamar, Fayette, Walker, Blount, Etowah, St. Clair, Calhoun, Cherokee, and Cleburne.

TODD BROOKS, Inspector, has been employed by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy since June 16, 2011. He has 12 years of prior law enforcement experience and holds a BS in Sociology from the University of West Alabama, and an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Garden City Community College in Kansas. His specialty includes all 797 sterile compounding facilities.

SCOTT DANIEL, Inspector, has been employed by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy since April 14, 2003. He has 9 years of prior law enforcement experience and holds a BS in Criminal Justice and Masters in Counseling from Faulkner University. His territory includes Autauga, Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Dallas, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, and Pike counties.

MARK DELK, Inspector, has been employed by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy since March 1, 2002. He retired from the Pelham Police Department after 25 years of service. He holds a BS in Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama Birmingham and a Masters from Jacksonville State University. His territory includes Bibb, Chambers, Chilton, Clay, Coosa, Elmore, Green, Hale, Jefferson, Lee, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, and Tuscaloosa counties.

RICHARD LAMBRUSCHI, Inspector, has been employed by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy since July 1, 1997. He has 20 years of prior law enforcement experience. His territory includes Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Morgan, Pullman, Madison, Marshall, Jackson, and DeKalb counties.

PEYTON ZARZOUR, Inspector, has been employed at the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy since October 1st, 2015. He has 34 years of prior law enforcement experience. His territory includes Bibb, Chambers, Chilton, Clay, Coosa, Elmore, Green, Hale, Jefferson, Lee, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, and Tuscaloosa counties.
