An individual, other than an intern, extern, or an assistant pharmacist, who performs pharmacy functions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

What is the role of the pharmacy technician?
A pharmacy technician shall not perform pharmacy functions or be present in the prescription department of a pharmacy unless he or she is under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. A pharmacy technician shall not perform pharmacy functions or be present in the prescription department of a pharmacy unless he or she is registered by the board. When supervision is required, a licensed pharmacist shall be jointly responsible and liable for the actions of a pharmacy technician.

If a technician chooses not to practice as a pharmacy technician any longer, are they required to keep their license current?
No. However, if that person wants to re-enter the pharmacy technician field in the future, they will have to pay back fees plus penalties to get their lapsed license current. Are there continuing education requirements for a pharmacy technician?
In addition to any other registration requirements, a pharmacy technician shall complete six hours of continuing education every 2 years, of which two hours shall be live presentation.

Does a technician need to obtain CE hours for the calendar year in which they register?
Technicians are not required to obtain CE for the year in which they register.

Can a technician carry over CE hours from one year to the next year?
No. A technician must obtain six (6) hours of continuing education every 2 years with two (2) hour being a "live" credit hour. CE hours must be earned each calendar year.

Is a technician required to notify the Board within 10 days of any change of address or employment?
Yes. Update your profile online for contact information (i.e. mailing address, email address, phone number, etc). Your name change has to be done by board staff with legal documentation as to why your name has changed.

Technician renewals occur biennially on odd numbered years. All licenses expire on December 31st of the renewal year. That means you must submit the renewal in time for the board office to process your renewal. We can assure processing of renewals if we receive your complete submission by December 10th.
